What is recovery coaching?

Recovery coaching focuses on the how of recovery rather than the why. Recovery coaches aren’t therapists, psychologists, or dietitians, but we have our own lived experience we use to inform our practice. Recovery coaches can support you or your loved one through the practical tasks, skills, and challenges that come with recovery from an eating disorder. Unlike traditional therapies that take place in a clinical setting, recovery coaching is all about walking alongside you in your daily life, helping you build confidence, resilience, and autonomy in recovery.

What can recovery coaching look like?

One-on-one Sessions

In one-on-one sessions we have the opportunity to debrief and plan your recovery journey—celebrating successes, working through challenges, and making a prepare for the road ahead. Whether you need validation, guidance, or strategies to tackle specific struggles, these sessions provide a safe space to talk openly and receive support.

Recovery skills

Sometimes, your recovery journey gets stuck on the little things, like not knowing where to start with meal prep, feeling overwhelmed by portioning food, or struggling with self-care. I share tools and strategies that have helped me and others, giving you practical ways to make daily life more manageable.

Supportive meal therapy

Mealtimes can be one of the hardest parts of recovery. I offer support by eating alongside you, helping to manage distress, and guiding conversations to reduce anxiety. I also gently bring awareness to any unhelpful behaviors, so we can work on them together in the future.

Treatment team liaison

Recovery isn’t a solo journey. I can communicate with your treatment team, like your GP, dietitian, or psychologist, to provide updates, share insights, and ensure that everyone is on the same page in supporting your recovery.

Clothes shopping exposure

Trying on clothes can bring up body image distress, anxiety, and old thought patterns. I help you navigate these challenges by planning ahead, using regulation strategies, and physically accompanying you to provide support and reassurance in the moment.

From building a grocery list that aligns with your dietitian’s meal plan, to managing in-store anxiety, I support you in making food shopping a less overwhelming experience. We plan together, use strategies that work for you, and take the stress out of decision-making.

Social eating exposure

Eating out, where food isn’t prepared by you and comes with a myriad of triggers, can feel daunting. Together, we visit a café or restaurant chosen by me, where I provide supportive meal therapy in a social setting. This helps you build confidence in eating with others and making food choices in real life situations.

Mindful movement partner

If you've struggled with under or over-exercising, movement can be tricky to navigate in recovery. As your mindful movement partner, I can support you in rebuilding a balanced relationship with exercise by walking alongside you—literally. I help monitor pace, duration, and intensity while checking in on how movement feels physically and emotionally.
